Take the ferry across Backstairs Passage to Kangaroo Island where you will experience idyllic island views and wildlife. Then follow Great Ocean Road along the coast from Adelaide to Melbourne, visiting the many icons along the way.

Itinerary: day by day

Day 1 – Adelaide to Kangaroo Island

Travel through the Fleurieu Peninsula, arriving at Cape Jervis to board the SeaLink ferry across Backstairs Passage (45 minute trip) to Penneshaw. Whilst crossing, it is not uncommon to have an escort of local dolphins that can be viewed from the dolphin deck on the vessel.

First stop is Rob's Shearing, where you will witness and learn how to shear a sheep. Travel to Pennington Bay, one of the Island's stunning beaches or Emu Ridge Eucalyptus Distillery before having lunch and visiting Seal Bay. At Seal Bay experience a guided walk along the beach amongst the Sea Lions! Then travel to the white sand dunes of the Little Sahara and have some fun on the sand boards and toboggans before we arriving at your exclusive accommodation at Vivonne Bay Eco-Adventures. Here you have the opportunity to spend some free time kayaking on the Harriet River or boogie boarding and surfing (included). Alternatively, you can have a swim or snorkel, take a self-guided walk along the property's tracks, go trail bike riding or simply kick back on the "best beach in Australia" as it was recently voted. There are plenty of complimentary activities to keep you occupied before and after your BBQ dinner. As darkness sets in you can take part in a nocturnal wildlife guided walk. (LD)

Day 2 – Kangaroo Island to Adelaide

On the way to Flinders Chase National Park, get up close to more wildlife at Hanson Bay Koala sanctuary. You will arrive at Remarkable Rocks ahead of the crowds to clamber over and marvel at the spectacular coast and seascapes. We head around to Admirals Arch at Cape Du Couedic where we watch the resident fur seals frolic in the ocean or sun bake on the rocks. After lunch at the Rocky River Visitors Centre, we have an option of several walks (seasonal choice/guide discretion) before hitting the spectacular North Coast and its many idyllic beaches (seasonal). If time and weather permits, several stops may be made en route to Penneshaw where you can purchase dinner before your departure back to Adelaide. Overnight accommodation included. (BL)

Day 3 – Free Day in Adelaide

Enjoy a free day in Adelaide to relax and explore the city. Overnight dorm accommodation included (meals and activities at own expense).

Day 4 - Adelaide to Grampians National Park

The morning will see us traverse the nearby hills then cross the famed mighty Murray River, before travelling through to the Victorian Border. Then we'll travel to the Grampians National Park and a place of great significance for the Indigenous population. Pass through the rugged beauty and discover truly spectacular views from the top after a good hike to one of the peaks. (LD)

Day 5 - Grampians National Park to Port Campbell (Great Ocean Road)

This morning we have a visit to the Brambuk Aboriginal Culture Centre and learn more of the ancient Dreamtime stories. Your creative skills will be assessed as we create personalised souvenirs to take home. Passing through Halls Gap, we head south to the Great Ocean Road where we'll take time to explore several natural landscapes including The Arch, London Bridge and the Bay of Martyrs, these are sure to be a great addition to the photo albums. We'll finish up at the friendly town of Port Campbell, nestled amongst the cliffs and pines. (BD)

Day 6 - Port Campbell to Melbourne via Great Ocean Road

This morning brings us to the magnificent Twelve Apostles rock formation, as well as the beautiful Loch Ard Gorge. A short break from the coast, we venture to the top of the forest at the Otway Tree Top Walk – a wonderful way to get a feel for Victoria's natural beauty whilst perched amongst the birds. Back down to the seaside for lunch as we pass through the coastal towns of Apollo Bay and Lorne. The tail end of the majestic Great Ocean Road will bring us towards famed surf location Bells Beach, then direct into Melbourne navigating the city streets with the famous trams and to our drop off locations. (B)
