Itinerary

Day 1 Wed: Cairns - Cape York
Meet a representative from Wilderness Challenge at the Qantas Terminal at the Cairns Airport, at 6.45am this morning. Enjoy spectacular views of the Great Barrier Reef as we fly to Horn Island. We transfer by ferry to Thursday Island and enjoy a guided tour of the island, before continuing to the mainland. Accommodation: Resort Bamaga, Bamaga, 2 nights. (D)

Day 2
Thu: Cape York
This morning we visit the beautiful Lockerbie Scrub, an isolated pocket of monsoon rainforest, on our way to historic Somerset. This afternoon walk to the very top of Australia, Cape York ! (BLD)

Day 3 Fri: Cape York - Moreton
Our 4WD adventure is at its best today as we travel along the famous Telegraph Track. Later, cross the mighty Jardine River to Fruit Bat Falls, where there is time for a refreshing swim. This afternoon continue to the Wenlock River, site of the historic Moreton Telegraph Office. Accommodation: Tented cabins with linen provided, share facilities, Moreton. (BLD)

Day 4
Sat: Moreton - Lakefield National Park
Meet some locals at classic outposts today. Cross the Wenlock River and sprawling sandbanks of the Archer River to the old gold mining town of Coen. Visit Musgrave, the century old Telegraph Station and now working cattle station before relaxing at Lotus Bird Lodge, a picturesque haven. Accommodation: Lotus Bird Lodge. (BLD)

Day 5 Sun: Jowalbinna
Explore Lakefield National Park, Queensland's second largest at 537,000 hectares (1.25 million acres). Waterlily covered billabongs, wildlife and a great variety of bird life makes for a memorable day. Cross a cattle station to Jowalbinna, an epicentre of Aboriginal rock art. In the evening chat around a bush campfire. Accommodation: Cabins at Jowalbinna. (BLD)

Day 6 Mon: Cooktown
Walk to ancient sites on Jowalbinna's sandstone escarpments and investigate the lives of the original inhabitants, and enjoy a refreshing creek swim. Visit the fascinating Quinkan Cultural Centre telling the story of indigenous, pioneering and contemporary life in Cape York. Travel through the agricultural district of Lakeland with the opportunity to buy locally grown coffee en route to historic Cooktown.

Day 7 Tue: Cooktown - Cairns
Enjoy time to explore Cooktown including spectacular views from Grassy Hill. We the n visit the eerie Black Mountain and quaint Lion's Den Hotel, before travelling south along the Bloomfield Track into the rainforests of the Daintree and Cape Tribulation. We cross the Daintree River and continue to Cairns, arriving at approximately 6.00pm where you will be transferred to your hotel. (BL)
